조 바이든 대통령은 이스라엘에 대한 이란의 공격을 “가장 강력한 용어로 규탄한다”고 밝혔습니다.
바이든 대통령은 13일 발표한 성명에서 “오늘 이란과 예멘, 시리아, 이라크에서 활동하는 이란의 대리 세력이 이스라엘의 군사 시설에 대한 전례 없는 공습을 감행했다”며 이같이 말했습니다.
[바이든 대통령 성명] “Earlier today, Iran—and its proxies operating out of Yemen, Syria and Iraq—launched an unprecedented air attack against military facilities in Israel. I condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms. At my direction, to support the defense of Israel, the U.S. military moved aircraft and ballistic missile defense destroyers to the region over the course of the past week. Thanks to these deployments and the extraordinary skill of our servicemembers, we helped Israel take down nearly all of the incoming drones and missiles.”
이어 “나의 지시에 따라 미군은 이스라엘 방어를 지원하기 위해 지난 한 주 동안 항공기와 탄도미사일 방어 구축함을 역내로 이동시켰다”며 “이러한 배치와 우리 군 장병의 뛰어난 기술 덕분에 우리는 이스라엘이 거의 모든 무인기(드론)와 미사일을 격추할 수 있도록 도왔다”고 설명했습니다.
또한 “방금 전 (베냐민) 네탸냐후 총리와 통화해 이스라엘의 안보에 대한 미국의 철통같은 공약을 재확인했다”며 “나는 이스라엘이 전례 없는 공격마저 막아내고 물리치는 놀라운 역량을 보여줌으로써 적들이 사실상 이스라엘의 안보를 위협할 수 없다는 분명한 메시지를 보낸 것이라고 말했다”고 덧붙였습니다.
[바이든 대통령 성명] “I’ve just spoken with Prime Minister Netanyahu to reaffirm America’s ironclad commitment to the security of Israel. I told him that Israel demonstrated a remarkable capacity to defend against and defeat even unprecedented attacks – sending a clear message to its foes that they cannot effectively threaten the security of Israel.”
바이든 대통령은 “이란의 뻔뻔한 공격에 대한 단합된 외교적 대응을 조율하기 위해 내일 주요 7개국(G7) 정상을 소집할 것”이라고 말했습니다.
[바이든 대통령 성명] “Tomorrow, I will convene my fellow G7 leaders to coordinate a united diplomatic response to Iran’s brazen attack. My team will engage with their counterparts across the region. And we will stay in close touch with Israel’s leaders. And while we have not seen attacks on our forces or facilities today, we will remain vigilant to all threats and will not hesitate to take all necessary action to protect our people.”
이어 “나의 팀은 역내 전반에 걸쳐 각국 관계자들과 협력할 것이고, 우리는 이스라엘 지도자들과도 긴밀한 연락을 유지할 것”이라고 덧붙였습니다.
