남부뉴저지통합한국학교, 전통과 현대의 향연 ‘한인의 얼’ 성료
남부뉴저지통합한국학교(교장 김정숙)는 지난 2월 22일 로완대학교 플리거 콘서트홀에서 재외동포청이 후원하는 문화예술제 ‘한인의 얼’을 성황리에 개최했다. 매년 커뮤니티와 함께하는 기금모금 행사로 자리 잡은 ‘한인의 얼’은 한인 차세대에게 뿌리문화의 자긍심을 심어주고, 지역 주민들에게 한국 문화의 아름다움을 전하며 남부뉴저지 지역의 다양성을 고취하는 데 기여하고 있다. 이번 행사는 문화 파트너 단체인 ‘뉴욕취타대’의 협력으로 특별히 한국에서 팝핀현준과 박애리 부부, 중앙대학교 국악과 연주단을 초청하여 다채로운 공연을 선보였다. 남부뉴저지통합한국학교 예술단의 공연과 함께 전통과 현대를 아우르는 다양한 무대를 마련하며 관객들에게 깊은 감동을 선사했다.
1부 공연은 사계절의 특색에 맞춘 구성으로, 학생들이 문화특화반에서 갈고닦은 전통 공연 예술을 무대에 올리며 한인의 자긍심을 드높였다. 이어진 2부에서는 초청 예술인들의 무대가 펼쳐졌으며, 팝핀현준의 역동적인 퍼포먼스와 박애리의 국악 공연이 어우러져 한국 전통과 현대 문화의 조화를 성공적으로 전달했다. 중앙대학교 국악과 학생 8명 또한 수준 높은 연주를 선보이며 무대를 더욱 빛냈다. 로비에서는 미술 특화반 학생들의 작품을 감상할 수 있는 전시회가 열렸으며, 어린이들을 위한 미술 액티비티 코너도 운영되어 다양한 연령층이 함께 즐길 수 있는 축제의 장이 마련되었다.
이번 문화예술제에는 남부뉴저지 지역 주민들과 학교 관계자 및 후원자들이 모두 한국 문화의 아름다움을 공유하며 소통하는 뜻깊은 시간을 가졌다. 현대 K-Pop 댄스와 국악이 어우러진 다채로운 공연 속에서 어린이부터 어르신들까지 모두가 ‘한인의 얼’을 함께 느끼며 뜻깊은 시간을 보냈다. 남부뉴저지통합한국학교는 앞으로도 한인 차세대 교육과 지역사회와의 문화 교류를 지속적으로 확대해 나갈 계획이다.
The Korean School of Southern New Jersey (“KSSNJ”), led by Principal Chung Kim, successfully hosted the cultural arts festival The Spirit of Koreans on February 22 at Rowan University’s Pfleeger Concert Hall, with support from the Overseas Koreans Agency. As an annual fundraising event in collaboration with the community, The Spirit of Koreans aims to instill pride in Korean heritage among the younger generation and to share the beauty of Korean culture with local residents, fostering diversity in the Southern New Jersey region.
This year’s event was enriched through the partnership with the Korean Traditional Marching Band (“KTMB”), featuring special performances by renowned Korean artists Poppin Hyun Joon and Park Ae-ri, as well as an ensemble from Chung-Ang University’s Department of Korean Traditional Music. Alongside a performance by the KSSNJ K-Arts Company, a diverse program blending both traditional and contemporary elements was presented, deeply moving the audience.
The first part of the festival was themed around the four seasons, with students showcasing the traditional performing arts they had diligently trained in through KSSNJ’s specialized cultural classes, elevating their sense of Korean identity. The second part featured performances by the invited artists, including the dynamic dance of Poppin Hyun Joon and the soulful Korean traditional music of Park Ae-ri, successfully highlighting the harmony between Korea’s traditional and modern culture. Additionally, eight students from Chung-Ang University’s Korean Traditional Music Department delivered high-caliber performances, enhancing the quality of the event.
In the lobby, an art exhibition showcased works by students from KSSNJ’s specialized art program, and a children’s art activity corner was set up, providing an engaging space for attendees of all ages.
With local residents, school officials, and supporters gathering to celebrate Korean culture, this cultural festival became a significant community event. Through a fusion of modern K-pop dance and traditional Korean music, attendees of all generations—from children to the elderly—immersed themselves in the Spirit of Koreans. KSSNJ remains committed to expanding its efforts in educating the next generation of Korean Americans and promoting cultural exchange within the local community.
