9월 23일 킴멜센터가 주최하는 필라델피아 가을 예술 축제에서 학교 예술단이 한국 전통 공연예술을 선보였다.

11시부터 3시까지 발레, 오페라, 힙합 등이 무대에 올려지는 전체 행사 중 페럴만 관(Perelman)에서 오후 1:35부터 20분 가량 ‘한국 예술과 문화’ 라는 제목으로 기원무, 부채춤, 모듬북을 공연, 현지 커뮤니티에 한국 전통의 멋을 소개했다.

관중들은 미국에서 흔하게 접할 수 있는 발레와 힙합 속에서 특색있고 독창적인 한국무용과 국악에 큰 호응을 보냈다. 24일에는 랜스데일 소재 임마누엘 교회에서 주최하는 문화의 밤 행사에서 설장구, 기원무, 창작무용 작약지증, 모듬북을 공연했다.

특별히 한국무용단을 이끌고 있는 김케이트 교사는 지난 1월 이매방류 기원무를 전수받은 학교 무용단이 학생들에게 좀 더 흥미있는 안무로 레파토리를 바꾸는 중이며, 전통 기원무 또한 언제든 공연할 수 있도록 준비 중이라고 밝혔다.

이 외에도 29일 TCNJ 한인학생회 추석축제, 10월 7일 한국문화재단 주최의 필라델피아 러브파크에서 하는 김치페스티벌, 10월 14일 델라웨어 한인회 주최 델라웨어미술박물관에서 하는 델라웨어코리안페스티벌 등 커뮤니티의 다채로운 행사 초청공연 일정이 계속되고 있다.

KSSNJ, in celebration of the autumn season, has been actively engaged in community-requested traditional Korean art performances.

On September 23rd, at the Philadelphia Fall Arts Festival hosted by the Kimmel Center, KSSNJ K-Arts Company showcased Korean traditional performing arts. Amidst a full day of performances, including ballet, opera, and hip-hop from 11 AM to 3 PM, the Perelman Theater took the stage at around 1:35 PM for approximately 20 minutes, presenting a program titled ‘Korean Art and Culture.’ The performance featured traditional Korean dances such as ‘Giwon-mu (Prayer Dance),’ ‘Buchae-chum (Fan Dance),’ and ‘Modeum-buk,’ introducing the elegance of Korean traditions to the local community. The audience responded enthusiastically to the distinctive and creative Korean dance and music, setting it apart from the more common ballet and hip-hop performances in the United States.

On the 24th, at the ‘Night of Culture’ event organized by Emmanuel Church in Lansdale, the school’s art ensemble performed various pieces, including the ‘Seoljang-gu,’ ‘Giwon-mu,’ ‘Peony Dance,’ and ‘Modeum-buk.’ Notably, Kate Kim, the instructor leading the Korean dance troupe, mentioned that the KSSNJ K-Dance Company, which inherited the ‘Imaebangryu Giwonmu’ last January, is in the process of changing their repertoire to make it more engaging for the students. They are also preparing to perform traditional ‘Giwonmu’ at any time.

In addition to these events, our school has a vibrant schedule of community-invited performances, including the TCNJ Korean Student Association’s Chuseok Festival on the 29th, the Kimchi Festival hosted by the K-Cul Foundation on October 7th at Philadelphia Love Park, and the Delaware Korean Festival hosted by the Delaware Korean Association at the Delaware Museum of Art on October 14th.
